Just like a clock needs all small mechanisms to work correctly if it is to show the right time, an enterprise relies on its support functions to provide the right services it is to focus on its core business. Dysfunctions in support functions result in the clock no more showing the exact time, which is a threat to its existence. A business sustainability can be harmed by support functions not providing their services correctly, would that be front or back office functions : receptionist not trained on welcoming visitors (current and potential customers, future employees, etc) , agressive security (upsetting potential customers, etc), air conditioning not working correctly (making employees less productive), toilets not cleaned at the right time, or even not clean at all (think employee productivity), building maintenance (light bulbs not replaced, etc), etc etc. What kind of image would an entreprise such as this have : how could employees believe in its requirements for excellence ? which client would trust it to manage for them ?
